About

me

Hello. I share the name of this website. I grew up in Raleigh, NC, and currently live in Pittsburgh, PA, where I graduated from Carnegie Mellon in 1999 with a BS in Computer Science and a minor in Philosophy. After graduating, I worked for CMU for another five years as a research programmer in the Stage3 Research Group. My research interests included 3D Graphics, Virtual Reality, and user interface design. I've since moved on to become a full-time game developer. I'm INTP, if you're into that sort of thing.

Now that you've followed all of those links, do you really know who I am? I doubt it. I don't really know myself. Not truly. Not deeply. It doesn't hurt to try, though, and in trying to understand yourself, you learn not only what you are, but how to become what you want to be.

work

I currently work at Schell Games, a small game development company in Pittsburgh. I would tell you more, but I'm too busy working...

play

My sport of choice is Ultimate Frisbee. Nothing else even comes close. I learned to play back in high-school. Back then I kicked some major ass. I came to college, played for Mr. Yuk, and quickly found myself knocked off my high horse. I got some good playing in for a couple of years, but injuries and mounting work let me drift away. Luckily, the company I worked for my freshman and sophomore summers had lunch-time ultimate three times a week, which was absolute bliss. Since I've been living full-time in Pittsburgh, I've played in Pittsburgh's many leagues, and was the captain of Pittsburgh's Balance of Power for a couple of years.

Music is a big part of my life, even if I'm only really good at listening to it. If you're interested in what I listen to, check out my recommendations. I also enjoy creative movies and well-written books.

In high-school I was big into raytracing, and I never really lost the bug, just stopped acting on it for the most part. I did a bunch of stills and animations with POV-Ray, and my old web page was largely comprised of that content. If I get my butt in gear sometime I'll put that stuff back up here. Back in the day, I also helped start the Internet Raytracing Competition. In my undergraduate graphics class I got to write my own raytracer and make some nifty animations with it that I actually got credit for. Unfortunately, my efforts have been mostly swallowed by the black pit of legacy software. One day I'll get that stuff working again. All that's left is still1 and still2 and crummy mpegs 1, 2, 3, and 4 (the mpegs are of the whole class's animations).

Like most computer geeks, I'm always up for a good computer game. I don't succumb to addiction quite as easily as I once did. I won't try to go through the video games of my life, but here are some highlights and/or lesser known gems: The Neverhood, xbattle, XBlast, Riven, Lemmings, Stunts, The New Tetris, Mario Tennis, and the game that came with QBASIC that everyone loves... Nibbles!
